Reunion Canceled
It is with regret that we announce that this year’s Raymond Reunion is canceled.
In the past, the University of Pacific has been able to accommodate Raymond-specific events on-campus during weekends of our choosing. This is no longer the case. The University now requires that all cluster college events be scheduled during its Pacific Alumni Weekend on a schedule of once every five years. According to the University calendar, this was not a year for a Raymond reunion. Further, while the University was willing to accommodate a Raymond reunion this year, due to its other obligations, it could not let us use the Great Hall, have break-out meeting space on campus, or, indeed, provide us with indoor air-conditioned space during what could be a hot June weekend in Stockton.
We had been working to bring back to this reunion Raymond faculty. We did not feel we could subject them to heat of a late June day outdoors in Stockton. In addition, we didn’t have the time to make other arrangements. Hence, we had no choice but to cancel this year’s reunion.
RPI Board
McGeorge and Raymond Collaborate
When we founded Raymond Phoenix Institute, we wanted to work together to advance interdisciplinary education at Pacific. We wanted today’s students to enjoy something of the experiences we all cherished.
Beginning at the close of 2008, the board began to explore a possible relationship with the interdisciplinary programs at Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law.
McGeorge welcomed our involvement with open arms. We spoke to the Dean of the Law School, who gave us a substantial amount of her time. She has a strong personal dedication and involvement with McGeorge’s interdisciplinary programs. She spoke at length about the programs and about participation in the programs. Yes, we talked about money, too, but it was money for the programs.
After some months’ careful exploration the board concluded we had found a right fit for this major goal we all have for the Raymond Phoenix Institute. The board decided to set aside $1,000 for an initial contribution and an additional $2,000 to match Raymond graduates’ contributions. It is a good beginning.
At our request, McGeorge prepared a brochure describing its program, including seven separate interdisciplinary projects. We think you’ll find the approach and tone familiar and will be as excited about McGeorge’s programs as we are.
There's a link to the brochure in pdf format below.
Please read the brochure and then advise us as to what you can pledge in time and/or money to support any or all of these projects. All contributions are tax deductible.
If you have any questions, feel free to call John Dyer at (916) 208-1096. (That’s right, it is a Sacramento number although John lives in Florida.) We look forward to hearing from you.
